I believe the primary reason Medigap coverage is rated quite favorably by most seniors is because private insurance performs like a Ferrari compared to traditional (gov't) Medicare.

Give the U.S. five or six years under a new gov't "overhauled" health plan/system and I think the general public will rate private (supplemental) insurance far more favorably than they do today.

Still not convinced? Consider public perception of the U.S. Postal Service vs. FedEx. Private hospitals vs. Veterans Administration (VA) hospitals, etc., etc.
